New Orleans Chargrilled Oysters

New Orleans Chargrilled Oysters

New Orleans is my second home. I went to law school at Tulane, and I met my lovely wife, Gretchen, on Bourbon Street. I love the city’s quirkiness, culture, and history. From Jazz Fest to Mardi Gras and everything in between, New Orleans has it all. It’s the food that keeps me coming back. Which is why the first thing I usually go for after landing at Louis Armstrong International Airport is New Orleans chargrilled oysters at Felix’s Restaurant & Oysterbar.

Located in the French Quarter at the intersection of Bourbon Street and Iberville, Felix’s has an extensive menu filled with delicious seafood options. Shrimp Po’boys, alligator, and crawfish etouffee are among the top choices. However, when I step into Felix’s, I am there for only one thing: New Orleans chargrilled oysters.

Upon sitting down at my table, I immediately order two dozen and an unsweetened iced tea. As I await my favorite treat, I contemplate ordering another dozed just because I’m here and I don’t know when I’ll return. I love chargrilled oysters, and Felix’s serves up some of the best in the French Quarter. The recipe is simple – shuck the oysters on a half-shell, grill them over an open flame, and then top them off with seasoned garlic butter and Romano cheese. AFterwards, serve with lemon and light French Bread to complete this perfect appetizer.

I am really looking forward to my next trip to New Orleans. We are strongly leaning taking the boys to Louisiana to see their Great-Grandmother and other relatives in Terrebonne Parish about 90 miles Southwest of the city. While we’re there, we will make it a point to spend some time in New Orleans. My older son, Evan, recently developed a taste for oysters, and he loves them chargrilled. So he may enjoy the best, I will make it a point to take him to Felix’s on this trip.
